As part of our therapy, we prescribe Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal remedies to be taken as a decoction/ tea, pills or topically used on the skin as wash, cream or patches.
Herbal medicine is the use of various parts of plants for medicinal purposes. All indigenous cultures in the world have used nature substances (especially plants) to promote healing and alleviate pain. Herbal therapies most widely known and used are from the Western Traditional/ Naturopathic Medicine approaches, Ayurvedic Traditional Medicine (India) and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Traditional Health practices are evidence that botanical medicines have established physiological effects or efficiency for clinical conditions, either alone or in combination with pharmaceuticals. Herbal approaches usually have been pursued because of the perception that many of these therapies are gentler and produce fewer side effects than pharmaceuticals. This perception must be tested in each case. It is important to remember that herbs contain active chemicals that may have side effects or interactions with foods and other drugs. Some herbs are known to be unsafe in certain circumstances, such as pregnancy. The use of herbal therapy should be discussed with a competent professional.
Chinese herbology often incorporates ingredients from all parts of the plants - leafs, stems, flowers, roots, and also ingredients from animals and minerals. Herbology is traditionally one of the important modalities utilized in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Each herbal medicine prescription is a blend of many herbs tailored to the individual patient. The practitioner usually designs a remedy using one or two main ingredients that target the illness. Then the practitioner adds additional ingredients to adjust the formula to the patient's conditions. Most formulas consist of two to eighteen different types of herbs. A number of herbal agents have established effects as pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs. Some are already integrated into conventional pain management programs.

Unlike western medications, the balance and interaction of all the ingredients are considered more important than the effect of individual ingredients. It is critically important that patients discuss what medications they may be using in order to avoid drug-herb interactions.

We prescribe only herbal medicine products made by reputable manufacturers from the highest quality materials and free of impurities.
