Natural forces within us are the true healers

Acupuncture has become a recognized therapy for a number of addiction conditions including:

Substance abuse
Smoking cessation
Weight loss
Food cravings

Research literature and practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has revealed that acupuncture has a profound effect on brain neurotransmitters and biochemistry. Acupuncture has been used in drug detoxification programs for many years. In 1985 it was instituted as part of the addiction treatment program in the South Bronx's Lincoln Hospital where it continues to be used today. According to the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA): "Within this sub-category is found strong evidence for the effect of the NADA protocol in improving patient outcomes in terms of program retention, reductions in cravings, anxiety, sleep disturbance and need for pharmaceuticals." Acupuncture helps the body in producing its own relaxants and pain relieving neurochemicals such as endorphins and encephalin. Specific points on the ear are used to stimulate the organs and their corresponding reflex areas which are responsible for fighting and eliminating toxins from the body. Treatments include the stimulation of points regulating the nervous system. Acupuncture, herbal and homeopathic supplemental formulas are used depending on the specific condition of the patient being treated.    Smoking cessation

Acupuncture also helps to alleviate symptoms of withdrawal. It helps to make the patient feel better emotionally, mentally and physically by:
 - Reduction of cravings
 - Improvement of restorative sleep
 - Reduction of anxiety and nervousness
 - Reduction of pain and cramping
 - Critically important as part of an overall detoxification on the patient

In addition to the traditional detoxification protocol used for any form of addiction or substance abuse, additional points are used to help control hunger. Herbal and homeopathic formula supplements are used to increase metabolism and reduce cravings.    Obesity

It is critically important to understand that acupuncture treatment is virtually painless. However, we can use auricular therapy seeds, lasers and electro-acupuncture devices to treat addiction and weight loss as a substitute for acupuncture needles.

Treatment session frequency and time is individual and varies with every patient. Treatment starts in our office, but continues when you go home. It may include appropriate food, herbal and homeopathic supplements, exercises and lifestyle change recommendations that have been proven to help in achieving a successful treatment outcome.
